Last week?s weather theme was wind. First of all, we had destructive thunderstorm winds on Memorial Day. A gust of 72 mph was measured at Hector International Airport where the official wind readings for the city are made. Severe wind damage around the city suggests higher gusts in spots. Then on Tuesday, it was non-thunderstorm winds which peaked at 51 mph. Our token calm day was Wednesday, when under a sunny sky, the wind peaked at a modest 26 mph during the morning. On Thursday, a developing low in Montana brought us southeast gusts to 47 mph. Finally, there was another round of severe thunderstorms with high winds just west of the Red River Valley very late Thursday night. Fargo missed those storms but a gust reached as high as 94 mph near Linton. As unpleasant as our week was, at least news was not reporting any storm death tolls in our area.
